Some photos from today. The haunted tunnel was a disappointment. Upon arrival, the volunteers were quick to point out that the haunted tunnel was the longest and darkest one, and to listen out for whistling, both statements immediately implant suggestion, when you actually get to the tunnels, there are loud speakers playing spooky sounds and whistling. The low light situation and the signs saying haunted passageway immediately implant suggestion again, and play on basic psychology by arousing auto suggestion and playing on sensory deprivation, by putting the sounds of scary places into the mind of the visitor, plus the fact the sounds being played will prevent any possible genuine phenomena being heard. On arrival, I took the opportunity to converse with the volunteers and asked them what they knew about the ghosts, to which they admitted not much, and that hed only been heard whistling. They went on to say that several psychics had previously visited and one mentioned that there were five ghosts, including one in the armoury who wasnt very happy because theyd failed to defend the king. The year this medium suggested was in the 1600s, even though the Fort wasnt built until the 1800s. This suggests (if taken to be correct) that an earlier establishment may have been on the site, and given the commanding views over Weymouth Bay and surrounding area, this is entirely plausible, if not likely. Also, the fact that Weymouth was held by a Royalist garrison during the English Civil War, adds plausibility to the story, even if just by chance. In summary, Id very much like the chance to carry out a prolonged and serious investigation of the forts history, and alleged haunting.
