Some quick reviews just to catch up... MAMA Spooky flick from producer Guillermo del Toro has a great premise and a few solid jump scares (not to mention hottie Jessica Chastain), but it loses steam a little over halfway through before overdosing itself with CGI. A solid and creepy watch, but could have been a lot better. WARM BODIES A zombie romance for the post-Twilight world is actually nowhere near as sickeningly atrocious as it sounds. Witty and actually pretty funny, it benefits from a smart script, good performances and cool creatures known as Bonies that look like human skeletons walking around. Amusing and worth a look. THE LORDS OF SALEM Trippy Satanic slick is almost oppressively dark as we follow Heidi, a DJ in Salem, Massachussetts who loses her grip on sanity after listening to a vinyl record from a group called The Lords. The most confident directing effort from Rob Zombie since The Devils Rejects, this features some of his best work including hypnotic and nightmarish imagery and chilling sound effects. A perfect throwback to slow burn Polanski-esque witchcraft flicks of old.
