Some truths an objective crimpson fan would have to put in her pipe and smoke . . . 1. There is abundant evidence that what really happened in the Superdome last night in NOLA is that for the first time this season, bammer played a real opponent. Given the SECs dominance that past 9 years, that statement would draw ridicule as bammer played an SEC West schedule plus Tenn, Florida, and WVU. But after this Bowl season, the SEC West was exposed as somewhat a paper Tiger, particularly the Miss. schools. 2. bammer was very fortunate (yet deserves fair credit for finding a way) to have escaped Red Stick with an improbable win after the Corn Dogs stoned the Kiffin attack all 2nd half. Props to the SEC zebra for the unnecessary personal foul call that kept LSU out of a likely TD lead late. 3. bammer was fortunate that AU was a one dimensional shell with no answer defensively, and red zone problems, else the Tahd would have limped into December with 3 losses. 4. If Miss State had a real head coach who had learned from his mentor, Urban Meyer, how to coach up your team to play without being intimidated, State would have knocked off the Tahd (so 4 losses, but again, credit bammer for finding a way). 5. Sabans annual championship in recruiting (what is it now, 6 straight years with the # 1 NSD class?) is yielding an at best mediocre ROI. As the Ball Coach opined, Saban should be winning it all every year (paraphrasing here) with the 5 stars he signs. 6. Sims proved, in the end, to be a very flawed QB, with horrific tendencies to throw into coverage and create costly INTs. (See # 5, and put some QB recruiting in said pipe to smoke) 7. Kiffin did his job in giving the Tahd a shot to compete and outscore opponents this season, but he showed some major flaws last night in being unwilling to play to Tahd DNA of pounding the ball (which tOSU had only modestly stopped) when the game was on the line. Kiffins ego to call a TD pass and make himself the story a contributing factor? I think so. But in any case, he played into Meyers only way to pull that win out - Sims picks, and enough of em for two games. 8. bammer has a WAY below average defensive secondary, and that is the position that Smart and Saban personally coach up, and work to sign the very best DB talent that the star ratings pump. Either Saban / Smart are shatty evaluators, or they failed in coaching this group of DBs, with Eddie Jackson topping the list. 9. There is no Tahd intimidation factor, certainly no longer in the SEC, and now, not even in other Power Five conferences. This despite the highest paid coach not named Harbaugh being at the helm. 10. Smart is, well, not as smart as he used to be, and his head coaching prospects are moving from mid-major to UT Chattanooga at the speed of a bammers nose dive from his double wide to his death last night. 11. Saban is, nonetheless, an outstanding head coach. The results dont lie. But he is not a savant, and once again, was exposed as more a go get better players however you have to recruiter whose game day coaching is littered with multiple epic failures from 2010 Iron Bowl, to Kick Six, to Sugar Bowl 14, and now, Playoff Semifinal in what was virtually a home game in NOLA. 12. Saban is mid-60s, and now talking about how you can be a winner without getting a trophy. That is squarely the antithesis of the brand that Saban pumped to the Tahd nation, and that the Tahd nation wears as a tattoo on their forehead - that they are SOLELY about winning championships. Who is in the wings to take the helm after Saban? Smart? Bwahaha. Kiffin? Child, please. Succession planning problem of the highest order, and a smart head coach will think carefully before following a HC of the deity status that Saban and the bammers have mutually created. 13. IF (and Im not suggesting its a small if, some unknowns here as to how well Gus can and will adapt, and fix the problems) AU starts playing just top 20 defense under Champ, bammer is about to have a serious Auburn problem again as they did in 10 and 13.
