Something I would like to share: I dont hate being a nurse, I hate what nursing has become. It has become less about helping the patient and more about increasing amounts of documentation and workload, lack of adequate amount of staff, hassles from management, filling the beds and apeasing the government. We nurses catch the downhill slide of almost everything that happens and it is a draining profession working long hours, weekends and holidays. We deal with rude, mentally ill and abusive patients and visitors and are often treated like servants and often dont get as much as a thankyou. Often I leave for work with a sense of dread and many of us put our health at risk with exposure to long hours, nightshift, stress and germs. I went into this profession with enthusiasm and wanting to make a difference only to now wonder how long can I survive like this....Thank you to all my co-nurses that I work with, they encourage me and give me a sense that I am not alone in how I feel. Without them I would have left this profession a long time ago....
