Something a good friend of mine asked in an excellent video regarding the University of Windsor Lancer football program...something very dear and close to my heart. The season opener is today 1 pm. at Alumni Field..... Thanks James Kennedy...(JK) Well, let me give you a little bit of advice from the people who know …. It ain’t easy, it isn’t for everyone… Those who dawn the blue and gold don’t hide behind a shield… they fight in front of one They go to the frontlines, where the battles are the toughest Fighting for every inch with blood, sweat and tears Sure you may get knock down, but you had better believe we’ll find a way back. We’ll get back up on that horse and come charging back at you even harder and faster than the last time! 2. SO YOU WANT TO BE A LANCER? Well, let me remind you about something… This isn’t pop warner or pee wee football; where your momma ties your shoes … this is a man’s game now. This is the OUA, this is the CIS Here fast is just a statistic, Here size will only get you so far Here games are won in January, February and March not on Saturdays in the fall. This is a place where “how bad do you want it?” and “how hard are you willing to work for it?” are really the same question…. 3. SO YOU WANT TO BE A LANCER? It’s a grind… and you have to be willing to embrace it. This journey will take your body and mind to places they aren’t yet prepared to go. We’re talking early morning workouts and late night practices. More cuts, nicks, bruises, and scratches than you can count. Where Hard, Tough and Determined are not mere words – they’re a code of honour You will leave everything you have on the playing field and then find a way to dig deeper and give a little more. And Why, put yourself through this? Because you know deep down, the guy next to you is going to do the same damn thing. 4. SO YOU WANT TO BE A LANCER? Well let me leave you with a closing thought… If you can bare the joy of victory with the same class as the sting of defeat If you can find the courage to continue, long after there is nothing left. If you can fill every unforgiving minute with sixty seconds worth of distance runs, weights lifted, pads blocked and a plays executed. Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it. You’ll not only be a Lancer, you will be a champion. SO? DO YA? DO YA WANNA BE A LANCER? YOU ANSWER THE QUESTION. GO LANCERS!!!
