Something for politicians to think about: youtu.be/1CjCKow5xmo?t=4m55s How does politcal and social change happen? One gloomy answer to that is that it only happens when things get unbearable. It only happens when you have half the population long-term unemployed - eventually someone says to hell with this. But the problem with that is you then have an explosion of some rage and the concequences of that may be just as unpleasant as the original situation. Thats NOT the way to do it, unfortunately its often the way that human societies have changed ... theyve waited and waited till the pressure built and then theres an explosion and then afterwards what happens may not be very much better. Thats NOT the way to do it. We could be intelligent about this. We could look ahead. We could talk about what is likely to happen. We could look at the need to change our taxation systems so that the wealth generated by technology is more evenly distributed. We could make sure that the companies that A control it are controlled democratically and B pay their taxes. We can do these things, but this is all POLITICS in the end. Its not about the technology, its abou the POLITICS. This describes to a tee why my interests and focus of late has shifted from technology and into politics. It blows my mind how dumb our political and legal system is in comparison to the technology and scientific knowledge available to us.
