Something wonderful happened today. In week 17, we helped to build a sensory shed for a little girl named Evie. Evie is the 2 year old daughter of Aimey and James from south London. When Evie was born, she had the cord wrapped around her neck twice, leaving her with brain damage. Then, when she was just a few weeks old, they discovered Evie had Retinoblastoma (a type of cancer) in both eyes. She was rushed to hospital and had to undergo chemotherapy to try to save some of her sight. Sadly, since we helped with the shed, Evie has also been diagnosed with a very rare form of terminal cancer. She is at home with her mum and dad, who say they are scared to even hope that they might have one last Christmas with her. After I posted the request for Life # 42 - the Croydon family - last week, I received an email from Evie’s mum. It said: “Im very close to Croydon, can we help with this? Evie is so very poorly and clinging on with such determination. We have had double the expected time with her. Its so strange, when you’re going through tough times you want to reach out to others struggling. I would love to help those little girls. The acts of kindness upon us gave Evie the smile in the picture I have attached, if I can pay that forward, in any way, I will.” Aimey then bought the two young girls brand new clothes, gifts and dress-up outfits, which she delivered personally to the family today. There were a lot of tears, and two very happy little girls. I can’t even begin to imagine what Aimey is going through. And to think of helping another family at a time like this is just wonderful. Aimey, you are a beautiful human being. Thank you so much.
