Sometimes Im not sure how to tell a story. Everyday is story - TopicsExpress

Sometimes Im not sure how to tell a story. Everyday is story worthy however when I cant post everyday so the story becomes too big. I guess I have to save something for the book. Ive had much help lately my new friend Mike has been picking and dropping me off everyday for the last three days. The first night I stayed in a permanent wall tent with Frank and Debbie. The next two nights Ive stayed at the Nisutlin Trading Post & Motel. I had a great view of the cylindrical propane tank but after a nice dusting of snow I just pretended it was an old ceded that had fallen down and was now harbouring all kinds of furry creatures. The big story around here which nearly everyone I meet insists on telling me is of course BEARS! Roughly a week ago a woman was killed by a Grizzly Bear out of Teslin (where I am now). The bear had come through the back window of her house and as she tried to get away the bear caught her at the front door. Her husband and dog tried to warn her but too late. The husband shot and wounded the bear and it took off but the woman didnt make it. How random and crazy is that, getting attacked and killed by a bear In your own house. Apparently the Grizzly had been around for days and conservation had been called to trap it but never came. It was hunted and shot however and when inspected it was found to be healthy though a little underweight. This explains the aggression as its late in the season. If the bear had been see around for sometime it was hunting waiting for the right moment. This time of year bears get desperate so they can fatten up before winter its crucial to their survival. It a tragedy to the extreme and my condolences go out to friends and family. People seem to talk to me like Im going to get killed by either a Bear or freeze to death on the Dempster. Its like they think they can predict the future and have already written me off. Ive heard countless times on my journey I cant make it. So far so good Ill just do what Ive always done and thats take it a day or two at a time. Its true I get scared but I refuse to live my life in fear or live of other peoples fears. I take the wisdom of their words and apply them to my decision process but ultimately I alone am landlord here. Well Im off into the wild once again though tonight I have a place to stay thanks to the efforts of Kate White and the local who have embraced my hike with vigorous enthusiasm for which Im eternally grateful. I leave you now with a few pics from the other day when I had a nice time setting the camera up and taking pics on the Smart River I did drink the water from there and didnt feel any smarter but I did get a head freeze which certainly made me feel much dumber. My apologies for the lack lustre story Ive struggled for days to write it and it just was to coming out very well. I guess its best to save some for the book anyway. Thank you...
