Sometimes our emotions live so close to the surface, just under the skin. Life tears at our skin and forces the pain to be raw in the air of our circumstances. It can be uncomfortable to witness this process in others. We see them bleeding and crying and floundering for a way to close the wound. We want to close it for them, but we cant. Others turn away, not being able to handle the sight of blood. But what we all need is someone to Hold the Space in Love, to hand us the peroxide and cotton if we ask, and being WITH us as we clean the wound. To observe with us the bubbling up of injured tissue, and watching how the terrain of the injury changes. Thats it. So simple yet so profound. When that person turns his back on me as Im trying to say, Hey, check this out, then I guess Ive had my answer all along. I need to continue to doctor and dress the wound alone, until a dear friend happens by and perches next to me for a while. In this moment, that must be what I need. Instead of the rejection of one persons compassion, the abundance of gentle caring from others. Wow, that sucks. That must really hurt! you say. Yeah, it does. Thanks for noticing. I think its feeling a bit better now. And I bandage it loosely, so it can get a little air while it tries to heal. Thank you, soulfriends, for staying with me in those moments. You are what life is made of.
