Song #3. Cant You Hear Me Knocking by the Rolling Stones. From the album Sticky Fingers, recorded at the great Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Muscle Shoals, Alabama (I recommend a visit if youre in the area, or even plan a trip). The Stones werent allowed to record in the U.S. at the time, but whos looking around in the woods in north Alabama anyway? This is where they went into a local diner, looking like the Stones, and were asked if they were a band or something. One of the guys spoke up and said Yeah, Martha and the Vandellas. A gritty, muscular guitar riff intro with lots of empty space, like starting up a train. The song chugs along with a jerky beat in the back, gaining speed with Mick pulling every lyric from his gut. Then the song takes off into an instrumental that was intended to be a fade out, so the guys were just jamming for fun, not thinking it would make it to album. But it did, and for that I am very thankful, because like with ending of the James Gang version of Stop, the musicians are letting loose, having fun, and doing their thing, and doing it well, and I dont want it to end. Its transcendent. Oh yeah, and a perfect song for a good 8 minute cardio warmup before working out. Just so you know. Enjoy. https://youtube/watch?v=3fa4HUiFJ6c
