Songworlds is a conversation in the vocabulary of movement, melody, words and memory. Something deeply touching and essential to our human nature is at work in sharing song and moving together. In choosing for our-selves a song to sing that has personal resonance and meaning, the memory and story of that connection can be shared. If we are really present in our bodies, in our sensations and immediacy, we can experience the past’s actuality in the now. That is one reason the practice of presence is often referred to as self-remembering. We will also sing songs together. Our basic practice and entry point to this kind of self-remembering is through free, everyday life movement. Following what we need bodily brings immediacy to our movement and freedom to our expression. We tune by sound and vibration, sensing the resonances of our bodies, and our voices and feelings open. That makes us permeable, awake and present, physically and emotionally tangible. Vulnerable and sensitized to our heart-felt stirrings with one another, we retain responsibility for ourselves. Verbal inquiry will enhance our self-awareness and relax our minds. When we feel sufficiently at ease in an environment, the social being can relax, heal and enjoy. The resonant field of individual and shared memory evoked by our choice of songs becomes a doorway to a deeper experience of our individual history and common ground. The practice of self-remembering will support our recognition and differentiation of subtleties within. Here we also learn that intimate experiences can be transferred to a more daily and more public space, and we could, if we would want to, invite neighbors, friends, to celebrate on our concluding evening. We could sing our songs and guests might want to share a song too or sing along with us. Whether you already sing or are amongst those, who feel: „I can‘t sing“, everyone is welcome.
