Sony hacking scandal ignites US-North Korean back-and-forth; Pyongyang proposes joint investigation into the matter: On the 19th of December, in an end-of-year news conference, US President Barack Obama promised a proportional response to a series of cyberattacks on Sony Pictures that he pinned on North Korea, stressing that the US will “respond in a place and time and manner that we choose.” (reuters/article/2014/12/19/sony-cybersecurity-idUSL1N0U315C20141219) In response to what North Korea views as slanders and “groundless allegations,” on the 20th of December, an unidentified official from North Korea’s foreign ministry issued a statement which was transmitted via Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency, proposing a joint US-NK investigation into the Sony Entertainment Pictures hacking scandal. North Korea emphasized that „The US should bear in mind that it will face serious consequences in case it rejects our proposal for joint investigation and presses for what it called countermeasure.” (independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/north-korea-proposes-joint-investigation-into-sony-hacking-scandal--but-warns-there-will-be-serious-consequences-if-us-refuses-9937594.html) The Daily Mail reports that, according to analysts, the proposal represents nothing more than a ploy, North Korea most likely being aware that the US would never accept an offer for a joint investigation.
