Sounds identical to our philosophy, mindset, and practices at Beyond Parallel. Put the Kool-Aid down folks. Train to improve, if you drill movements regularly with attention to detail and a desire to improve, your accomplishments, weights, scores, times, etc will improve. If you can not function properly with 95# then why would it seem reasonable to attempt that particular movement with 155#? Is the claim of I signed up for the Open really an accomplishment? I hope that one day, all of the athletes that come through our gym have the ability to participate, and compete in a CrossFit open, regionals, games... If they wish. As a coach, the best interest of my athletes is always going to be my first priority. For all of the great things CrossFit has opened peoples eyes to, it is a shame that with its rise in popularity comes an even greater increase in the number of gyms that run on a daily basis for the sole purpose of making a buck. Such gyms are shams, and I feel bad for their athletes, most of whom do not know any better (if they did, they would move on with their search to find an establishment where they will actually learn and have the opportunity to improve). Kudos to the owners of SPC... Its always nice to see educated leaders in the fitness industry take a bold stance for what is right.
