#South_Korea #Seoul #Breaking End the vicious cycle of poverty and despair Members of civil groups including AntiPoor and Common Joint Action for the Disabled hold a press conference at Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul on March 12, promoting the Pink Paper Ship campaign. The campaign commemorates those who died in poverty including a mother and two daughters who committed suicide together on Feb. 26 due to severe poverty, and to end the vicious cycle of poverty and despair. While the story of the three women in Songpa district has drawn more attention to holes in South Koreas welfare system, Seoul Metropolitan Government announced changes to welfare provision approach, from the current come-and-take to we-will-find-you, to seek out people hidden in severe poverty. Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on Mar. 12 it would organize a special task force to find and support people in severe poverty and investigate holes in the welfare system until July.
