Southampton Leading The Chase For Osvaldo Southampton have edged closer ahead in the race to sign highly-contested striker Pablo Osvaldo. Reports from Italian newspaper, Corriere dello Sport, have noted that a £15m offer has been accepted for the Roma striker. The Saints have been battling for the signature of the Italian but will face stiff competition from Fulham, Benfica and league rivals Inter Milan. Roma seem keen to offload the number nine and are attempting to entice him with a move to the South coast. Osvaldo, who has scored 27 goals in 55 games for Roma, moved to the Stadio Olimpico for a fee of €17.4m in 2011 and has nine Italian caps to his name. The 6ft centre-forward could be considered a coup signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side but will have to face the challenges of man-managing the player. In 2011, Osvaldo was suspended and fined by Roma for lashing out at Tottenham target Erik Lamela after refusing to pass him the ball in a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
