The word “spa” may be derived from the Walloon word “espa” meaning fountain and this in turn, came from the name of the Belgian town Spa, where in the 14th century a curative, thermal spring was discovered. Further back, the name Spa originated from the Latin word “spagere”, which means to scatter, sprinkle or moisten and may be an acronym of the Latin phrase “sanitas per aquas” i.e. health through water. But lo and behold, not all seems to be well in the business of wellbeing and danger might be lurking in some of the substandard aromatherapy oils that could be damaging liver and kidneys.
