Specialist – Hazardous Materials Permitting - Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi: Day-to-Day Operations Follow the day-to-day operations set by the Unit Head - Hazardous Materials Permitting in the Permitting, Compliance and Enforcement division to ensure continuity of work and the delivery of effective and high quality outputs. Report on a regular basis to the Unit Head - Hazardous Materials Permitting on the operational activities, challenges and issues faced, mitigations taken, etc. as required to keep them informed and updated on the activities performed. Hazardous Materials Permitting Implement hazardous materials permitting standard operating procedures including processing applications, reviewing risk/ impact assessment, evaluation against criteria, etc. for facilities that import, export, produce, store or manage chemicals or hazardous materials to ensure that permits are provided in compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines. Conduct permitting activities for existing facilities by coordinating with the Environment Compliance and 2 Audit unit to ensure appropriate inspections are conducted to facilities, and update permits as necessary, to reflect the facility operations. Review and approve or reject permit requests to ensure adherence to established guidelines and standards and submit to Unit Head - Hazardous Materials Permitting for final review and approval. Standard Operating Procedures Develop standard operating procedures for hazardous materials permitting to ensure compliance with applicable local laws and regulations as well as best practices to ensure compliance and minimising the environmental and human health impacts. Report Preparation Contribute to the preparation of regular reports on the status of approved, rejected or renewed hazardous material permit applications, identified challenges and risk, and provide recommendations in order to inform effective decision making and to support in the development of hazardous materials permitting policies, regulations, and plans. Prepare of statistical information such as number of issued permits/ licences, number of applications, chemical storage levels, transport quantities etc. to ensure ease of accessibility for future use. Data Sharing Share all collected data and reports with the Environmental Information Management Division to support the development of comprehensive databases and consolidated reports and to ensure availability for reviewing and enhancing the hazardous materials permitting processes. Collaboration Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on matters related to the permitting of hazardous materials such as data on levels of materials, permissible levels, impact of the materials on the environment and on public health, etc. to facilitate flow of information and build awareness. Collaborate with Customer Relations division, as required, in order to ensure timely receipt of all related documentation and applications required for hazardous materials permitting. Policies, Processes and Procedures Follow all relevant section policies, processes, procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner. Change Management Support the creation of change management culture through taking a ‘hands-on’ and ‘can-do’ approach to EAD’s new business changes, participating rapidly to the development of new initiatives, meeting planned targets, and demonstrating preferred high performance behaviours. EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) Comply with all relevant EHS guidelines, policies and procedures, report incidents and hazards in a timely manner, and reduce consumption of natural resources to support in protecting the environment and ensure a healthy and safe work environment. Ad-hoc Requests Perform additional duties commensurate with the current role, as and when requested by the Unit Head - Hazardous Materials Permitting.
