Spent the night at our cabin up on our place. Roasted hot dogs and marshmallows with Dennis and Luke last night while listening to the frogs croak and watching the sparks rise with the fires hot air, spotting just a glimpse of a moon through the light clouds. This morning, Luke and I woke to the sound of mallards on the lake. We had a breakfast of pancakes with peach sauce, cup of hot chocolate while sitting by the woodstove, Lucy curled up beside us, Topo our new Great Pyrenees waiting for us out on the porch. Walked back down to our fires from last night and added more branches as we cleaned up from winters snow and wind. Woodpeckers tapped on trees, the redwing blackbirds claimed their nesting areas among the cattails and a pair of Canada geese flew in next to two pairs of buffleheads. The frogs began their chorus again and nuthatches scoured the Ponderosa Pines and larch for bugs. The sunlight filtered through the trees and Luke and I decided to take the canoe out around the lake since the ice has retreated to the sheltered south edge. Going back up this afternoon to continue clearing roads and trails. Anyone ready for camping?
