Spinning the karambit looks cool and it does have a purpose. Spinning from a retracted grip to an extended grip and back again, allows the karambit player more angles of attack and can be used to free one self from your opponents grasp. If you pull a knife in close quarter engagement, your oppponent will reach out to grab your wrist to control your weapon arm. This is a natural response although not the correct response. Spinning the karambit can allow you to hook your blade over his wrist before he realizes his mistake and as he pulls away and you pull down the blade will contour cut the wrist. So spinning is an actual tactic but one should only do it for that reason for mistakes can cause you to be on the injured side.
