Spiritual Songs Not Worldly Ones Ephesians 5:14-20 A song consists of words and music sung together.Perusing the Scripture or simply the Bible,christians are enjoined to render certain songs and forbid the others.But what are the type of songs christians must chant?We shall come into that soonest.But christians should render songs of praise.Songs of praise are those songs we sing unto God for eulogizing Him over what He has done or to show appreciation unto Him for His assistance or support. But its funny to hear that many dont know how to praise God or to sing praises unto Him.Note,when you express honour and thanks to God,youre praising Him,and when you open your mouth and making musical sounds with your voice,usually producing words that fit a tune,youre singing praises unto Him.But its heartrending in todays history,few people among the large numbers of christians in todays world are normally use their mouth to sing praises unto God.But how?What Im trying to say is that christians of these days are not following the teaching of the Bible regarding songs they are to sing out of their mouths. In Ephesians 5:19,its written Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.Dissecting this Biblical affirmation,christians will see vividly that its ungodly and unscriptural for them to chorus those songs that are secular indeed.Christians must sing spiritual song,not worldly ones.Were to sing meaningful and edifying songs and not nonsensical songs that fill the air these days.The first church seen in the city of Jerusalem did Praising God.They never used their mouths to chorus unmeaningful songs(see Acts 2:47).Bible thus counsel What is it then?...I will sing with the spirit,and I will sing with the understanding also(1Corinthians14:15). Many songs of this day chant by many christians are with without understanding and sing not out of the Spirit of God.Note,those christians that delights in singing worldly songs can not enjoying the company of angels and the presence of the Holy Ghost.Paul says,Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,according to the prince of the power of the air,the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience(seeEphesians2:2).We,as christians need to amend our ways and pull ourselves out of the control of this worldly spirit that control the affairs of those who delight in worldly songs.In short,christians are pecular people,chosen generation,royal priesthood, and holy nation;were to show forth the praise of who called us out of darkness into His marvellous light.Lets take away worldly songs out of our mouths but always singing spiritual songs,hymns and psalms and making melody in our hearts to the Lord which is the most acceptable before God(see 1Peter2:9;Ephesians5:10).The Lord help His people in this regard,in Jesus name.
