Squirrels vs. Bird feeders -- Anyone who lives around squirrels and who likes to feed birds knows all about this! Squirrels are very clever, equally determined, and acrobatic. These should be called squirrel feeders. Some people will put vaseline on the poles, which makes the squirrel slide down like a fireman. But the squirrels will keep trying and eventually they wear off the vaseline. Years ago, there was an article in the Wall Street Journal about a retired Army officer who was spending a great deal of time trying to develop a simple, squirrel-proof feeder. Those squirrels were giving him the devil. There are some squirrel resistant feeders out there,but it took some thinking. Squirrels are like non-lethal honey badgers. They never quit.
