Sri Lanka and India have the longest continuous historical and bilateral links, and both nations were culturally and historically very close, Sri Lankan Prime Minister D M Jayaratne said today. Delivering the convocation address at the Manipal University in Indias Karnataka state as the Chief Guest, the octogenarian Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Saturday said Sri Lanka and India should enhance the unbroken lineage of friendship. In his address to the graduating students, the Sri Lankan Premier said education is the key ingredient in character building and socio-economic transformation and the learning has no end. It even continues at the work place, he said. The convocation day not only means the end of your academic life but also the beginning of your future journey into professionalism. He advised the students to be responsible citizens, morally responsible for their actions in life and not to be corrupt. If your work is not guided by morality and ethics, your success will have no value. Do not make corruption a way of life and have faith in the strength of will power and determination, the PM said. The Sri Lankan Prime Minister asked the students to set aside differences and make the world a better place for others to live. It should be collective effort to make world a better place to live while respecting others, he told the students. Each one of us, regardless of our differences and as human beings, can meaningfully contribute to this objective. We are all in this world to play our roles to make world peaceful and happy place for future generation as well, he said. In the two-day convocation held today and tomorrow, Manipal University awarded degrees to1,780 undergraduate and post graduate students today.
