Srinagar, Sep 24: Resolving to adhere with the government approved rates for mutton, All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers’ Association today urged the consumers not to pay more than Rs 310 per kg. The wholesalers jointly resolved to supply the mutton to the retailers at government approved rate of Rs 285 per Kg, who in turn, they said, should sell it to the end-consumer at Rs 310/kg. Addressing a press conference, President AKWMD, Mehraj ud Din Ganaie said the wholesalers have resolved to adhere with the government approved rates to give benefit to the consumers. “To bring about transparency in our trade and make things clear to the people, we through this press conference inform the consumers that the wholesalers from today will sell the commodity to the retailers only as per government notified rates,” Ganie asserted. He added: “Few decades back, our state was self-sufficient in mutton production, but now we are depended on import from states like Rajasthan, Bihar and Delhi. State government must think in this regard and take appropriate steps in order to make Kashmir self-sufficient once again,” he said, adding that Sheep Husbandry Department must play its role in this regard. However, contrary to the government approved rates, the wholesale and retail dealers continued to sell the mutton at higher rates. Ganie said: “Earlier mutton retailers used to complain that dealers are selling meat at higher rates.
