Srinagar: The Army has convicted seven of its men including two officers for involvement in the 2010 Machil fake encounter case in Jammu and Kashmir. All convicts have been awarded life imprisonment and their service benefits have been suspended. The soldiers have been found guilty of killing civilians and hatching a conspiracy. In 2010, three youth from North Kashmir were lured to Kupwara with the promise of job and money and were killed in a staged encounter by troops near the Line of Control. They were dubbed as Pakistani terrorists who attempted to infiltrate in the country. The case had triggered massive protests against the Army in the valley
