St. Petersburg is characterized by an intermediate (from maritime to continental) climate. It is quite mild and humid with frequent fogs and rains. There can be dry and hot periods in summertime, when the temperature reaches up to +25°C - +30°C, but they last for a week at most. Precipitation is not plentiful, at 550 - 600 mm per annum. The average summer temperature is + 17°C. The coolest month (January) is cold having a mean temperature of -8 degrees celcius (17.6 degrees farenheit)
