St. Philips Baptist Church will not participate in any protests until after the funerals of the slain police officers have been observed. We recognize that those families are experiencing extreme difficulties at this time and offer our condolences and prayers. Inasmuch as the church has played a significant longstanding traditional role in organizing and participating in the fight for equality, civil rights, and all other social justice causes, we serve God first. Our humanity and Christian belief dictates compassion at this time. However, when the time to mourn has passed, we will return to the fight for equality and justice with the same level of commitment and fervor.
