Stampede Die & Engineering tax break to create 60 jobs? A public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Leighton Township Hall to discuss a request for a tax break by Stampede Die & Engineering. The tool and die company, which employs 83 people at its plant on Electric Drive in the Moline Industrial Park, want to expand its facility and upgrade equipment. Company officials say the move will retain the current jobs and create an additional 60 positions in the next two years. The tax abatement, under the provisions of the Industrial Facilities Tax Exemption Act, could be as much as 50 percent for up to 12 years for real and personal property. However, Township Clerk Mary Lou Nieuwenhuis said no particulars about the size or length of the abatement have been discussed as yet. The Township Board hopes to take up the matter at its regular meeting Sept. 12 after the hearing.
