Stanley Kubrick used to have directors (and friends) Sydney Pollack and Steven Spielberg send video tapes of American Television to him in the U.K. Seems Kubrick was obsessed with certain TV shows (THE SIMPSONS was his favorite) and, particularly, commercials (he was fascinated that Nescafe could tell such great stories in only a matter of 2 minutes) because the filmmakers knuckle down to put as much on screen in such a limited amount of time.
