Starting an Internship On September 1st, Monday morning, at 9AM, Im going to start my internship as a lawyer. In Israel, if you want to be a lawyer, you have to get your first degree in Law and then do a one year internship. After this year, you need to pass the bar exam and congratulations – youre a lawyer. By doing this you now have the opportunity to be involved in theory as well as practice. I studied Law and Economics for three years, and went to New York to improve my speaking, reading, listening and writing skills in English. I was in the States for nearly 6 months. I came back in the middle of April. Then, I told myself that I needed to get an apartment in Tel-Aviv, so that I could focus on my cases without dealing with traffic. I had been looking for more than three months for an apartment. It wasnt easy, but I found one that I really like. So Im ready: Ive got my first degree, Im feeling confident with my English skills and Ive got my own place to stay during the internship. Ive always said that the internship is the most important time in a students life. This is crunch time. This is the time that you have to see how it really works. How to manage a case from the beginning to the end. How to deal with clients and judges. True, youre only an intern and the lawyers are the ones who have the last word, but still, its a great opportunity. Im willing to work hard so that I can be a really good lawyer. Its really important to do good work, not only for your bosss needs, but for yourself as well. When youre good, the sky is the limit, and more importantly, you feel better and more connected to the things you do. So lets hope that it will be an interesting and perhaps even an enthralling year. I hope that a year from now Ill be full of enthusiasm, just like this moment. To act, change, work, and influence business and society. To wake up with a smile on my face because Im doing what Im good at and interested in. A profession that I truly love.
