State Labor’s agriculture spokesperson Steve Whan has issued a statement on Nationals abolishing drought fodder and stock transport subsidies. HODGKINSON ABOLISHES DROUGHT FODDER AND STOCK TRANSPORT SUBSIDIES AGAIN Drought affected farmers in NSW will once again be cut off from crucial fodder and stock transport subsidies because the Nationals are completely out of touch with the realities facing farmers. “As of July 1, the NSW Government has discontinued the capped 50 per cent subsidy for fodder and stock transport for drought affected farmers – despite the fact that many regions in NSW are still in drought,” Shadow Minister for Primary Industry Steve Whan said. “Many farmers in the north of our state have been hand-feeding their stock for more than two years. It is financially crippling but it is the only way they can keep core breeding stock alive to rebuild their business when conditions improve. “The transport subsidy has been a part of NSW drought assistance right through the millennium drought and it has been a vital part of keeping farm operations afloat. “The Nationals abolished fodder and stock transport subsidies when they were elected, they were then forced by pressure from farmers and NSW Labor to reintroduce the subsidies last year and now they are abolishing them again.
