Statement from John Joe Nevin and his management GreenBlood, exclusively published first by the Westmeath Topic. Please credit Westmeath Topic if re-printing any part of this statement: John Joe Nevin will be out of action for several months after being attacked in a Saturday morning incident. Nevin is gutted that his pro career has been slowed by the attack but vows to come back stronger in the fall. Doctors told Nevin he would be out for two or three months before he could start rehabilitation on the leg, which was broken in two places. Nevin was attempting to act as a peacemaker between relations. He was attacked by two cousins, one with a golf club and another with a stick. GreenBlood Boxing had hoped to have Nevin on a busy schedule getting six fights before an August break. That will be pushed back until the fall and the goal will be to have him 6-0 before the Christmas holiday break. “Our schedule has been thrown off by a few months but hopefully we’ll have John Joe back working hard by mid-summer and have him fighting again Stateside in September,” Moran said. “John Joe is okay and hopefully the Garda will take care of the matter now. We were hoping to get John Joe headlining a card in Ireland in the fall but we may have to push that back some now because the big push is making him a major attraction in the Irish American audience. We have talks about New York, Boston and Philadelphia fights so we’ll keep working on it. John Joe will not be making any further comments on this incident.”
