Stay Vigilant Against Home Repair Scammers The recent roundup of home repair scammers who targeted seniors is good news for everyone except the scammers. These crooks will appear before a court to answer for their crimes, but not all scammers have been brought to justice yet. Family, friends, and neighbors can all play important roles in helping to protect the elderly. Take notice if work crews are knocking on doors in your area, making unsolicited pitches for home repair jobs. They often try to trick or intimidate seniors into expensive and unnecessary work. Warn loved ones about these tactics, and encourage them to say “no” politely but firmly. Listen closely if a senior tells you about an encounter with a door-to-door home repair salesperson. If you think you or someone you know might have been scammed by a home repair crook, report it to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division by calling 1-877-5-NO-SCAM or filing a complaint online at ncdoj.gov. This message brought to you on behalf of North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper.
