Stella Innovations presents: Grammar reference PREPOSITIONS OF TIME 1. At At is used with clock times, feast days (Christmas) and certain periods of time. E.g.: - The train leaves at four oclock. - We have a holiday at Christmas. 2. On On is used with days and dates . E.g.: - He was born on 2 December 1980. - Ill see you on Thursday. 3. In In is used for longer periods. E.g.: - The stock market boomed in the 80s. - The weather is good in spring. 4. By By is associated with a deadline. E.g.: - We will know the outcome by the end of the week. 5. For For refers to a period of time. E.g. : - Shes staying here for two weeks. - I worked in Taipei for three years. 6. During During can be used instead of in with periods of the day, months, seasons, years, centuries etc. E.g.: - Production will begin during July. We also use during to indicate that one event occurs while another is taking place. E.g.: - Ill be in Osaka during the trade fair. 7. Since Since is used if we say when something started in relation to the present. E.g.: - I havent seen her since I left the company. - Weve increased our client portfolio since the beginning of the year. - Stella has been publishing textbooks since 2011.
