Stewie takes you to the Big Pit: National Coal Museum My photos taken 10/09/2014 Welsh: Pwll Mawr: Amgueddfa Lofaol Genedlaethol) is an industrial heritage museum in Blaenavon, Torfaen, South Wales. A working coal mine from 1860 to 1980, it was opened to visitors from 1980 under the auspices of the National Museum Wales. The site is dedicated to operational preservation of the Welsh heritage of coal mining, which took place during the Industrial revolution. Conclusion cant fault this great day out lots to see and its free, sorry to say no mobile phones or cameras below ground but they give you a tray to put in before you go underground. I put this in the bracket of highly recommended very easy to get too even if you come by bus and left your car at home, so much to see in Blaenavon will take you a minimum of 4 hours. Also the mountain railway is just around the corner.I will give The Big Pitt 5 out of 5 stars super highly recommended. Thank you very much Stewie.
