Sticks And Stones May Break My Bones, But Words Will Never Hurt - TopicsExpress

Sticks And Stones May Break My Bones, But Words Will Never Hurt Me? How many times have we heard that during out lifetime? How many times have we said it? Well I say its a load of crap! Sure, words dont leave bruises or scratches that can be seen, but they cut deeper, below the surface. They do the most damage, scarring our emotional well-being, cutting away at our self-worth. Words are powerful, so it is important to remember that Word is a 4-letter word. Words can be uplifting. But when used improperly, words can make us feel embarrassed, they can make us angry. They hurt us. If taunted enough we can become withdrawn and isolated, or worse...vengeful. Yes my friends, words can be dangerous. Weve all felt their powerful sting at some time or another. Think about that for a minute. Think about the worse thing that someone has ever said to you. Think about how much it hurt you. How did it make you feel? Did you become angry and spiteful? Were you embarrassed? Did you cry? Now think about the worse thing youve ever said to someone, or about someone. Why did you say it? Was it spoken out of anger? jealousy? uncertainty or fear? Was it said simply to make yourself feel superior? Did you need some justification of your own self? The words we choose to speak go a long way to separate us one from another. When we speak wisely and with compassion, we become a friend. When we speak harshly...an enemy. So I ask you today, before you speak, fill yourself with compassion and love. Then listen to the words that flow from your mouth and watch the faces of those youre speaking to light up with a smile. The Bible sets a great example for us all to live by, so in close Id like to share a few passages. 1) Careless words stab like a sword, but wise words bring healing. The Lord hates those who tell lies... 2) The wise are known for their understanding. Their pleasant words make them better teachers. Wise peoples minds tell them what to say,...Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, making people happy and healthy. 3) Spoken words can be like deep water, but wisdom is like a flowing stream...People will be rewarded for what they say; they will be rewarded by how they speak. What you say can mean life or death. Those who speak with care will be rewarded. 4) The mouth speaks the things that are in the heart. And I tell you that on the Judgment Day people will be responsible for every careless thing they have said. The words you have said will be used to judge you... some of your words will prove you guilty. 5) People who think they are religious but say things they should not say are just fooling themselves. Their religion is worth nothing! and finally, 6) The things I taught were not from myself. The Father who sent me told me what to say and what to teach. And I know that eternal life comes from what the Father commands. So whatever I say is what the Father told me to say.
