"Storm" by Jesse Peel, excerpt from "On Sonam". You danced; you skipped into my life With all the subtly and strife Formidable and full of life as a summer lightning storm Our walk began a reckless run No time to waste in winter sun Our creation had just begun and rare something began a form Intensity, made manifest We bared our souls to none the rest Confessed our secrets to the night in quest To know each other still Sleep itself brought no refuge We dreamt in tandem, as we refused To cease thoughts of the other; infused Dreams penned by the other’s quill All the while I hold you tight Through dusk and dawn and through the night As if to let you go conjured fright That my world itself would burn Hand in hand we walked the road Your laugher and charisma strode Aside a man who had long bestowed His heart to you, in turn We clashed with vengeance, full ahead Furies born of the lives we’d led Yet even these blackened demons fled When we returned to each other’s arms We knew each other as ourselves We knew the heights, we knew the hells We knew all of each other’s tells Willing slaves to the other’s charms Yet you and I know how it ends You know the blade and how it rends the very heart I surrendered you when my passion and love knew form This is the love I would never know This the heart I would never grow had fate decided not to show my soul a summer lightning storm.
