Strength can be displayed in so many ways. It can be physical, it can be mental, it can be emotional. My mother has always been a strong presence in all of our lives since the day we were born. A strong woman is the lifeline of her family. As Matt would say, our backbone. Never more true than on this journey with Matt. My mother endured her pain and anguish for her child always protecting him by not allowing him to see her fear. She cried in a darkened room, in the shower, never allowing him to have to share in any fear because she was the one he looked to for comfort, for security, for courage. She is the true epitome of love and sacrifice. Her undying faith in the Lord helped him through many procedures and treatments. I watched her, especially in these last 2 weeks...her physical body barely could move, her emotional anguish could be seen in her eyes, but never once did she give us a notion that we were giving up. She gave us so much hope and faith, even in the final hours, I truly believed that Matt was going to just rip off the covers and sit up say, lets get out of this place. I have always said my mother defines for me what a true mother is. She is selfless, sacrificing, nurturing, loving, and a pillar of strength for us all. I love you my dear mother. I will always be here for you. Matt knew you were his rock, you gave us the gift of being able to spend the time that we had with him. You made his health your job, your focus, your life. And for that, I am eternally grateful.
