Strictly Sarsfields After 12 weeks of training, some blood, - TopicsExpress

Strictly Sarsfields After 12 weeks of training, some blood, sweat and tears and plenty of laughter along the way, our 24 dancers took to the stage in front of a huge audience in Westmanstown Events Centre on Saturday night last. And what a show they gave us! From start to finish they were amazing. When we started on this journey we had room full of left feet. When they took to the stage however, they could all give Michael Flatley a run for his money. The night commenced with a group dance involving all 24 dancers. This set the scene for the night and the atmosphere in the room was electric. The first dance of night was the Charleston danced by Stiofan O’Conghaile and Maggie Mulqueen along with Damien DeSay and Lisa Tuite. Both couples were fantastic and really impressed the Judges – Sorcha Furlong, Norma Hurley and Johnny McCaffrey. The next couples to strut their stuff were Gavin Carabini and Penny Delmar with Tommy Flannery and Cathy Connell doing Rock & Roll. Once again the audience were enthralled by the moves of the couples who seemed to be really enjoying themselves. After some encouragement from the MC, Brian Ormond, Tommy treated us to a verse of “The Fields of Athenry”. After the energy of the first two dances, the mood was slowed down with an elegant display of the Waltz by Peter Flannery and Cathy O’Neill with Paul Stapleton and Anne Marie O’Neill. The grace and style displayed by both couples was a revelation. Peter and Paul have announced that they are available for functions for a small fee. We then moved from sophistication to passion with the Pase Doble danced by Kenny Wade and Vicki Casserly with Antonio Sejean and Carol Gallagher. Both couples danced superbly. The ladies looked magnificent and the men weren’t half bad either. We were then brought back in time to the 70’s with Salsa Fever with Joe Lavin and Miriam Hodgkinson along with Shay Hurson and Katie Keher. Both couples dazzled the audience with their moves. John Travolta has already been on looking for his suits back. Our final set of couples to come on stage were Joe Whyte and Jenny Costello with Donal Moynihan and Fiona Crosbie dancing the Jive. This was the most energetic dance of the night but both couples made it look effortless. The ladies looked fantastic while the men looked like they were reliving their youth. With the dancing over the voting by the audience began and it was fast and furious. While the voting continued we were treated to a fabulous display by Westside Performing Arts. This helped to relieve the tension while we waited for a result. Finally the moment of truth arrived and Debbie Kiernan, our choreographer, announced the winners – Stiofan and Maggie. The audience erupted with cheers of delight for this very popular couple. Well done to our winners and to everyone who took part. Then it was back to the clubhouse where local band ‘Arthur’ entertained the huge crowd there until the wee hours. Thanks to Tony Donohue for giving so generously of his time to transport us from Westmanstown back to the clubhouse. This amazing show could not have happened without the dedication of the dancers and the understanding of their families. The professionalism of our choreographer, Debbie was exceptional and this was evident in the quality of the show we witnessed. Our thanks to Debbie and her assistant Daniel (Cheech) for their hours of hard work to present us with this amazing dance extravaganza. Equally so the hard work and commitment of the organising committee cannot be under-estimated. This committee has met weekly (sometimes 2 and 3 times per week) since January to plan and organise this event. It was a huge undertaking but the calibre of the committee ensured that it was a huge success both financially and from an entertainment point of view. This committee consisted of: Mary Reynolds, Josephine Donohue, Alice Whyte, Kathleen Roche, Kellie DeLacey, Julie Keogh, Katie Keher, Ursula Britton, Mary Flannery, Greg O’Neill, Gerry McAndrew, Michael Roche, Frank Fleming and Ronan Keher. A special word of thanks must go to everyone who supported all of the fundraisers over the last few weeks. The variety of events was amazing from duck racing, dog racing, bingo, carboot sale, cards, cookery, footgolf, table quiz, challenge matches, cake sales, book swap, girls night in, disco and raffles. Your generosity at every event has been incredible. Finally, thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to the success of this event, the dancers, choreographers, video team, sound & light team, ushers, vote sellers, voting scrutineers, sponsors, advertisers, printers and the organising committee. https://facebook/lucansarsfieldsstrictlycomedancing?ref=stream
