Students from Mrs. Koch’s first grade class at Kalida Elementary enjoyed a visit from Master Sergeant B.J. Romes, father of first grader Malia Romes. Mr. Romes served in the U.S. Air Force for 6 years and still remains active in the National Guard. He showed the students how to stand at attention and salute the flag, a routine that all military personnel follow in the morning before they start their day. He also brought in military hats from Iraq and Ecuador, which were given to him by the soldiers of these countries for teaching them how to defend their country. He shared medals that he received for his service and brought in a “dishdashah” which is a long sleeved one piece dress worn by men in Iraq. To thank Mr. Romes and all veterans for their service to our country, the students performed a Veterans Day song in sign language
