Studio Lambert to make latest BBC2 competition format BBC Two is investing in another competition format, this time its the turn of interior design, putting amateur decorating enthusiasts to the test. Studio Lambert will make 12-parter The Great Interior Design Challenge, ordered by Tanya Shaw, commissioning editor for Factual Features & Formats, and Alison Kirkham, BBC head of commissioning for Factual Features & Formats. Tom Dyckhoff, architecture and design critic for The Times, will present the series. The contestants all rate their own creativity and have the homes to prove it, but can they realise someone else’s interior tastes and style? Brave homeowners give over their bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, dining rooms, hallways, and studies to put them all to the test. Each episode will follow the wannabe designer’s as they source materials, select products and try to find everything they need to make their room look great whilst staying in budget. The homeowners give the amateur designers their feedback, together with Daniel Hopwood, award-winning architect and interior designer, and Sophie Robinson, ex-editor of BBC Good Homes and Interior Designer. The series will introduce a new street each week and viewers will learn about its history and how it has affected the architecture of the homes there. The show will also feature tips and guides for home decorators. Tanya Shaw says: “I am delighted to be welcoming some great new talent to BBC Two with the hugely talented Daniel Hopwood and extremely experienced Sophie Robinson in Britains Best Interior Designer. Britains Best Interior Designer is executive produced for the BBC by Tanya Shaw and Alannah Richardson for Studio Lambert. Our homes are the most important, most intimate bit of design most of us ever experience, says Tom Dyckhoff. And theres a lot more to getting them right than a quick makeover, plumping a few cushions or popping to a well-known Scandinavian furniture store. Im excited that The Great Interior Design Challenge not only changes peoples lives - both discovering new creative talent and transforming peoples homes - but at last gives real interior design the respect it deserves.
