【Summer Intensive Chinese Program】Please contact me for a flyer. Indiana University’s Flagship Chinese Institute (FCI) is writing to you in hopes that you can provide information about our program to interested students at your university. In case you are not familiar with the Flagship Chinese Institute, our challenging summer language program offers students the opportunity to attain one year of university-level language training in eight weeks and obtain 4 to 8 transferable IU credits. The average enrollment number for the summer is 45 students. The estimated cost of attendance for summer 2015 is $5,430 for undergraduates and $4,400 for graduate students, covering tuition, fees, lodgings, most meals, and textbooks. Indiana University continues to offer all FCI students in-state tuition rates, which greatly reduces the program’s cost in comparison to other intensive language programs. Housed on Indiana University’s Bloomington campus, FCI began in 2009 and offers two levels of Chinese language instruction: Intermediate and Intermediate-Mid. FCI students advance their knowledge of Chinese language and culture through classroom learning, daily and weekend extracurricular activities, individualized tutoring, a language pledge, and an immersive language environment. Graduating high school seniors, current undergraduate and graduate students, and those already with a bachelor’s degree are all encouraged to apply. The priority deadline for application is February 15th, and the final deadline is March 15. Your students may apply for a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowship www2.ed.gov/programs/iegpsflasf/index.html (if it is available at your institution) to participate in this summer Chinese program. More information about FCI can be found on our website at indiana.edu/~fci, and photos can be found on IU’s Chinese Flagship Center’s Facebook page. For those students interested in beginning their study of Chinese, IUs Summer Language Workshop (celebrating 65 years of quality language instruction) will offer first year Chinese for rising and graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals. Workshop staff will be working closely with FCI and IUs Chinese department to ensure quality instruction, and interprogram activities will be offered for both FCI and Workshop students in the summer. The Workshop is eligible for FLAS and Project GO funding (for ROTC students). For more information, please see: indiana.edu/~swseel/ Please find a FCI flyer attached for distribution to students, both in your language program and at your university or partner institutions. Should you have any questions, please contact the Flagship Chinese Institute at [email protected] or call 812-856-0412.
