Sunday, August 24, 2014 What a glorious day on Whidbey Island today! The weather was BRILLIANT! WE DROVE NORTH TO Seattle to Mulketeo where drove onto the ferry to Clinton over to Whidbey Island. We bearded north on SR.20 through rolling hills of farmlands, .Old weathered farmhouses and old barns, briefly catching glimpses soft the ocean on tither side of the island when we got close enough,. We stopped at Meerkerk Gardens which is a huge rhododendron garden when in bloom, but we were treated to dozen of very large and colorful dahlias ins bloom. The grounds were hosting a Bluegrass festival later today and we enjoyed hearing one of the bands practice. Benches out on the lawn under the tall pine trees overlooking the bay ahead. Drop dead landscape for a concert! We drove on to Couple where we parked and walked along both sides of this small, one-street town. We found Tobys Tavern and went in for lunch. It was a bit long for service but we enjoyed chatting amongst ourselves and getting to know each other more, From there we drove up to Deception Pass and marveled in the spectacular view from walking across the bridge and form hiking under it to get to the other side, We even saw kayakers going through the rapid currents along with many dozens of boats. Admiralty Head Lighthouse was our next stop. Set on the west side of Whidbey Island in the Fort Ebey State Park this lighthouse offers a spectacular view out to the Peugeot Sound. From there we drove over to Driftwood Beach and saw fisherman lined along the banks of the water throwing their fishing lines far out in hopes of catching a silver Coho salmon. We enjoyed dinner at the Keg sitting at the bar and just relaxing before driving back into Seattle to call it an evening. The Northwest is certainly beautiful and offers a beautiful background to spectacular photos.
