Sunday, July 13th, Day 34 - What a day!!! By Brenda Worden — 7 hours ago What a day, what a day indeed! I have longed for a day like today since we arrived at this hospital 5 weeks ago. I am overwhelmed with joy and appreciation for the progress my sweet John made today! Where do I start...I was at the door of the ICU unit at 10:00:01 when they opened the doors for family this morning and the beautiful sight I saw when I walked into Johns room was amazing. I was greeted with a smile which in turn plastered a smile on my face all day! John was alert, he was responsive, he was smiling and most of all....he looked healthy and like himself! Im sure many of you have not witnessed how the color and ora of a person changes as they get sicker and then again as they get healthier and more so than any other indicator you can gage their health when you walk in a room by the way they look. John is getting healthier by the day/ I dont know if it was the entire florida waterski community getting together for their state championships and saying a silent prayer over the weekend that did it, but my husband made huge progress this weekend! So thank you for your thoughts, love, support and prayers! John had an awesome start to the day so I texted Zack and Sydney and told them to get to the hospital quickly because I wasnt sure how long it would last. The most amazing thing was that it lasted, and lasted, and lasted ALL day long even through the hemo-D monster visit for 3 hours starting mid-day. John did sooooo well, they decided to do a trache collar test at 5:30 this afternoon!!! I was so nervous and I could see apprehension on Johns face. They started the test by removing the vent and only giving John on demand oxygen through his trachea.. HE DID IT!! He breathed on his own, he kept his oxygen levels at 97% and he was doing it on his own. This brought huge TEARS to my eyes! What a major accomplishment! The original plan was to only leave him on for 5 minutes as he could tolerate it because it is very taxing to exercise those breathing muscles again. Low and behold when I came back in to visit during the 2nd round of visting hours at 8pm, he was STILL breathing on his own!!!! OMG, I am so super excited I know I will hardly sleep tonight so very joyful and thankful for the events of the day! #johnstrong!
