“Sunday, Monday Happy Days, Tuesday, Wednesday Happy Days, Thursday, Friday Happy Days, Saturday, what a day, Groovin’ all week with you.” Hey, Hey everybody it’s that day again, It’s Friday TGIF!!!! What was that white crap that was falling today? I thought spring came a week ago. Opening day is Monday there can’t be snow. Well the weather is supposed to get better after today. It is supposed to be 43 today with showers, then back down to 38 tomorrow but hey! At least the sun is supposed to be out. Then Sunday 50 and Monday 60 hip, hip hooray! Enough with this weather what’s happening this weekend. The first half of the Elite 8 has been selected. Dayton, Wisconsin, Florida and Arizona are in. Tonight Michigan takes on Tennessee at 7:15 pm. Tennessee looks a lot better than a play in team. I am just as scared of this one as I was of Texas. Make me feel good about this one Chris. You were right on, on your assessment of Texas. Then at 9:47 MSU and Virginia tangle with each other. The other games are Kentucky and Louisville and then Iowa State and Connecticut. The winners of these games advance to games on Sunday. In hockey the Red Wings continue with their attempt at making the playoffs and extending the playoff streak to 23 seasons. It is the longest active streak in the NHL. They did not help themselves with the loss to Montreal on Thursday. Saturday night they go to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs who just happens to be 1 of the 4 teams tied with the Wings with 80 points. These 4 teams are fighting for the last 2 playoff spots. Then Sunday they return home to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Every game is a must win at this point. The Wings have 9 games left (18 potential points) and the thinking is that it will take 93 to 95 to make the playoffs, thus the situation is pretty obvious. On a local note the Spirit were eliminated from the playoffs Thursday night with an overtime loss to Erie. The baseball season gets underway officially Sunday night. That is unless you count the 2 games the Dodgers and Arizona played down under. Sunday night it is the Dodgers at San Diego on ESPN. Then, while it is not the weekend, the Tigers began their season at home against the Kansas City Royals on Monday. The big news regarding the Tigers on Thursday was Miguel Cabrera getting the big contract extension. Somewhere in between all of this I will have to fit in some time dining and shopping with my lovely wife. I keep telling her it is not all about sports. TGIF everyone enjoy the weekend.
