Sunday Morning in London: The Guards Chapel, open to all the public for Sunday Service at 11am, and built in 1838, is the spiritual home of the seven Regiments of the Household Division: The Household Cavalry (The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals) and the Guards Division, made up from five Regiments of the Foot Guards, Grenadiers, Coldstream, Scots, Irish Guards and Welsh Guards. It is housed at Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk and is a living church, prayed in daily and visited throughout the year by thousands seeking solace and reflection. On Sunday 18 June 1944 it was destroyed by a flying bomb which killed 121 people, yet left the Altar candles burning, a symbol of hope for the future. In 1963 the new Chapel, containing the original apse, which had escaped destruction, was dedicated and opened for worship. Each week congregations made up from past and present members of the Household Division, local people and visitors from all over the World gather for worship. The Chapel is the only remaining Military Chapel in London and therefore occupies a unique position both in the heart of the capital and in the hearts of the nation. Services Sunday 1100hrs (members of the public welcome) 1st and 3rd Sundays in the Month Choral Holy Communion All other Sundays Sung Matins followed by Said Holy Communion Music in the Guards Chapel Every Sunday, worship in the Chapel is supported by a Band from the Household Division and the Guards Chapel Choir made up of professional singers.
