Sunday School Lessons December 21, 2014 GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST Devotional Reading: Psalm 19 Background Scripture: Luke 2:1-20 Lesson Scripture: Luke 2:8-20 GOLDEN TEXT The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. Luke 2:20 Aims and Objectives: By the end of the lesson, members should be able to: • Develop the attitude of receiving good news with thanksgiving. • Compare and contrast the first Christmas celebration and what we see today. • Understand that the birth of Jesus is the greatest news ever brought to the earth. • Discuss the best way to celebrate the birth of Jesus. • Share the good news of the birth of Jesus with others this season. THE LESSON A. The Shepherds Received Good News Luke 2:8-12 B. The Combined Heavenly Choir Luke 2:13-14 C. The Shepherds Spread the Good News Luke 2:15-20 Take Home • The birth of Jesus is the greatest news in the world and believers should celebrate it as such. • The gift of Jesus to the world is the favour of God released to us. • Jesus came to the world to bridge the gulf that was created by sin between humankind and God. • God can use anybody to fulfil His purpose. • Believers should respond to the birth of Christ by glorifying and praising God and also by telling others. • Believers should live peacefully in their neighbourhood as a proof that they have truly had an encounter with Jesus. • Accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord today. Fellowship and Ministry Building Activities Members of the class should briefly share the evangelistic outreach which they intend to participate in as they prepare to celebrate this year’s Christmas. Prayer Points • Praise God for this Christmas season. • Pray that God will use you to spread the news of His birth and purpose to the whole world and that you will be diligent as the shepherds were.
