Sunday Zoe and I worked with Jenn Brooks again on pre-jumping - TopicsExpress

Sunday Zoe and I worked with Jenn Brooks again on pre-jumping technic. I cantered the flower box again (this time with the flowers sticking out) and a small pole pile. Cantered single poles ok. Ready for a very small vertical now. It really helped having back to back lessons so I did not lose my first days progress. One thing though. The first jump of the day can be tough. Zoe is most likely to overjump the first jump, not knowing exactly whats the plan. She approaches with pricked ears, trembles, and you feel she is going to launch. She needs a confident rider first jump until she knows the drill. Instead she gets a nervous twit, which compounds if the jump is awful. That combo is disaster. Also, something in my minds eye hates cross poles for cantering a jump. Ok to trot them. Would rather jump something solid looking with no air space. When I am actually jumping, I need to keep my eyes way up to the rafters so I dont see the jump close up. Later in the day I had my dressage lesson and really appreciated the serenity of dressage over the nerves of jumping. At least I feel more competent when four feet stay on the ground. So why do I keep trying to jump? When everything clicks, its fun. And I dont want fear to win.
