Sunday morning, Midnight Sun. The great Johnny Mercer was driving in his car when he heard a new Lionel Hampton and Sonny Burke tune on the radio, Midnight Sun (1947). Words started coming to his head as Hampton played the vibraphone. He pulled over. Called up the radio station, asked them to play that song again, and wrote the lyrics to the song. Was there such a night, its a thrill I still dont quite believe But after you were gone, there was still some stardust on my sleeve. The flame of it may dwindle to an ember and the stars forget to shine And we may see the meadows in December, icy white and crystalline But oh, my darling, always Ill remember when your lips were close to mine And I saw the midnight sun.
