It can be a sapling planted in a pot, perhaps a fruit tree, showing the promise of what is yet to be, or it could be a rose with a meaningful name (for example, silver wedding, or Elizabeth, or Charmed Life). Sprigs of lavender, planted to grow into a hedge, then each child born into the family receives a cutting to start their own hedge... Imagine a named rose, planted for a daughters birthday, and those roses are then used for her wedding day....
