Superior by Susan Blight (Anishinaabe from Couchiching First - TopicsExpress

Superior by Susan Blight (Anishinaabe from Couchiching First Nation, visual artist, filmmaker, and arts educator) is bifurcated along a horizontal plane: the top portion featuring footage of Lake Superior splashing against the shoreline sits above footage of the artist seated in a wooden chair before a yellow floral wallpapered wall, her back to the camera. Over the length of the video the subject moves slightly, her movements limited to the acts of unpinning her hair from an updo and plaiting it into two braids. The combined imagery of landscape and figure in a constructed environment seems incongruous to one another, perhaps leaving us to wonder as to how to make sense of the relationship between them. #RestlessPrecinct #soundscapes Jen Christine
